Decreased Sensitivity of Palmer Amaranth to Glyphosate Through Selection

چکیده

The evolution of glyphosate-resistant Palmer amaranth is the result of overreliance on glyphosate alone for weed control in glyphosate-resistant crops. It is believed that the use of reduced glyphosate rates may have contributed to the evolution of resistance in Palmer amaranth; however, data to support this hypothesis are lacking. Therefore, an experiment was conducted in the greenhouse at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville to evaluate the increase in tolerance of progenies of Palmer amaranth from plants that had been treated with increasing rates of glyphosate at each generation.

Reduced Translocation Is the Cause of Antagonism of Glyphosate by MSMA in Browntop Millet (Brachiaria ramosa) and Palmer Amaranth (Amaranthus palmerii )

Studies were conducted in growth chambers to characterize absorption and translocation of C-glyphosate applied alone or in mixture with MSMA in browntop millet and Palmer amaranth. MSMA antagonized activity of glyphosate in both weed species. Absorption of C-glyphosate in Palmer amaranth was rapid and increased with time from 11.1% at 0.5 h after treatment to 68.1% at 168 HAT. Absorption of C-g...

Overlapping Residual Herbicides for Control of Photosystem (PS) II- and 4-Hydroxyphenylpyruvate Dioxygenase (HPPD)-Inhibitor-Resistant Palmer amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri S. Watson) in Glyphosate-Resistant Maize

A Palmer amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri S. Watson) biotype has evolved resistance to photosystem (PS) II- (atrazine) and 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD)-inhibiting herbicides (mesotrione, tembotrione, and topramezone) in maize seed production field in Nebraska, USA. The objectives of this study were to determine the effect of soil residual pre-emergence (PRE) herbicides followed by (fb...

Multiple-Herbicide Resistance Is Widespread in Roadside Palmer Amaranth Populations.

Herbicide-resistant Palmer amaranth is a widespread issue in row-crop production in the Midsouthern US. Palmer amaranth is commonly found on roadside habitats in this region, but little is known on the degree of herbicide resistance in these populations. Herbicide resistance in roadside Palmer amaranth populations can represent the spread of an adaptive trait across a selective landscape. A lar...

Loss of Glyphosate Efficacy: A Changing Weed Spectrum in Georgia Cotton

Introduction of glyphosate resistance into crops through genetic modification has revolutionized crop protection. Glyphosate is a broad-spectrum herbicide with favorable environmental characteristics and effective broad-spectrum weed control that has greatly improved crop protection efficiency. However, in less than a decade, the utility of this technology is threatened by the occurrence of gly...

Seed Production Potential of Palmer Amaranth in Arkansas

Glyphosate-resistant Palmer amaranth is the most troublesome pest in Arkansas cotton production. The prolific seed production, high germination rate, and rapid growth coupled with the lack of post emergence herbicide control options make this species a constant threat to cotton farmers. Sustainable control of Palmer amaranth requires careful management of seed in the soil seedbank. To emphasize...
